Come back next year to see the states’ 2026 tax-free holidays. Some states may not participate, but there’s a chance that yours has a tax-free week or tax-free weekend.

Tax-free holidays vary from state to state. Some states don’t participate, but the ones on this list either have tax-free weekends or tax-free weeks. These holidays fall right in line with back-to-school season, so go ahead and purchase their back-to-school items knowing you saved a pretty penny.

July 18 - 20

Some localities may choose not to participate*

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Computers $750 or less
  • School supplies under $50
  • Books $30 or less per item

August 2 - 3

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Electronic devices
  • School supplies
  • School art supplies
  • School instructional materials
  • Clothing under $50 per item

August 17 - 23

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Clothing and footwear less than $100

August 1 - 31

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles under $30
  • Most school supplies selling for $50 or less
  • Clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $100 or less
  • Computers and related accessories selling for $1,500 or less (when purchased for non-commercial and personal use)

August 1 - 2

  • Clothing and footwear under $100

August 10 - 16

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Clothing and footwear under $100
  • First $40 of backpack purchase

August 9 - 10

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Most retail items of up to $2,500, purchased in Massachusetts for personal use

July 11 - 13

  • Clothing and footwear under $100
  • Accessories under $100
  • School supplies under $100

August 1 - 3
